I like it! How do you handle setting the time/date and location on the raspberry pi after power up? When I took mine camping I had to preconfigure it to connect to my phone's hotspot, It wasn't the smoothest setup when I did it a few years ago. I've thought about possibly adding a RTC module to handle time, but never actually did it. |

I do a lot of cross-country travelling and wanted a small, portable setup that I could set up overnight at a campsite. I use a standard 1/4" thread camera tripod, a 6" camera mount extension, a universal camera ball joint, and a Raspberry PI HQ camera mount. I designed and printed the top and bottom adapters for the acrylic dome and 20mm/post.
It's a little longer than I wanted, but I use the bottom of the unit for "storage" to make it fully contained while travelling. CS lenses, charging cables, etc. all fit securely into the 4" pvc body. The entire PVC housing itself slides up and down the camera extension post, so theoretically longer cameras can be used by simply sliding the bottom bracket up up to four inches.
There's nothing fancy, no heating elements or anything like that, but so far in my experience it's working very well. The 4" acrylic dome is sealed to the top PLA printed adapter with silicone bathtub sealant. I dealt
It also works very well with my ASI 120MC-S camera, which attaches directly to the universal joint in place of the metal rpi bracket
