Error looping at initial boot: usb6-port1: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

What happened?

I have the Orange Pi5, the installed nvme board has a different OS on it, and I have previously been successful booting your ubuntu-22.04.3-preinstalled-desktop-arm64-orangepi-5, so I am not intending to erase the nvme.

Fresh download ubuntu-24.10-preinstalled-server-arm64-orangepi-5.img.xz dated 2024-10-22
and dd of=/dev/sdc
First boot, it does unpack and start loading, the screen clears to show the login prompt, but at 37 seconds I see three times it generates SHA fingerprints with randomart images.
Then it loops with the same error message every 1.5 seconds:
usb usb6-port1: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

After waiting 2 minutes, I went Ctrl-Alt-F2 to log in and get a dmesg output.
I worry that I have to change the root password to get in, believing the install script did not finish.

Unplug the mouse, no effect. Unplug the keyboard, then the Atolla 4-port externally powered hub, finally the insistant message goes away.

This is oddly the best hub brand I've got for the Raspberries, after problems with dozen others, so this was not my first guess as being the cause.

What tests can I do that will help fix this?

The operating system dropdown list box does not show 24.10, I selected 24.04 as closest match.
