Would this be feasible? Thoughts? I feel like a preshared key would work with some public private key encryption method. I wonder if there would be a way to do some type of Tonal key as well. Like emit a certain sound to authenticate the chat.

It is a good idea, but first need to implement two things: a guarantee of: data integrity (hash) and receive (tcp or similar).

That would be totally feasible but it sounds like you'd be better off using more robust base system such as Kamal Mostafa's minimodem or Peter Iannucci's blurt.
I made Quietnet as a toy and it is partially optimized for simplicity and ease of explaination.
why not pipe the output of some other form of encryption over quietnet? initial key sharing could be handled with a more trusted system, then shout encrypted stuff over quietnet -- kinda like the pgp-trust for email.
