Checklist

  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I'm aware that this is a request for Tubular itself and that requests for adding a new service need to be made in vanilla NewPipeExtractor.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the feature request will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.
  • I have read and understood the vanilla NewPipe contribution guidelines.

Feature description

Hi!

Since FreeTube is listed in the "Other apps to get some other features from" part of the LastPipeBender ReadMe, I'd like to request the Proxy feature from it be added to LastPipeBender.

The proxy feature of FreeTube supports HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 protocols:

0

Why do you want this feature?

YouTube has been cracking down on VPNs recently, this feature would allow to continue using a VPN to watch YouTube by trying different servers until finding one that doesn't require to sign-in to confirm you're not a bot all while being globally connected to the same server that is blocked by them for everything else not YouTube-related.

For example, I prefer to be connected to a French server for all my non-YouTube activity, however most French servers from my VPN are considered sus by YouTube and require Sign-In to watch anything, which is against NewPipe & FreeTube's privacy-first philosophy. With the proxy feature, I could pick a server from a foreign country and still continue to enjoy YouTube privately thanks to this solution.

Why ist the feature relevant to this fork?

I could not find any mention of proxy support coming to NewPipe in the near future. An issue about this is open on the Tubular repo, but as mentioned above, since FreeTube has this feature and is listed in the "Other apps to get some other features from" part of the LastPipeBender ReadMe, this feature request is relevant to the fork.

Thanks! And Happy New Year! 😄

Hi, thanks for detailed feature request.

First of all this project is under maintenance mode. See the comment in #6 for more information

It would be good to have proxy settings inside PipeBender, I agree. I'll try to implement this but It wont't be in near future. PRs are welcome

PS: maybe you can use RethinkDNS app until this feature will be implemented (can connect multiple vpn/proxies for diffent apps)

PS2: You cae also use freetube in your phone :) see

Thanks for the quick response and thanks for the RethinkDNS and FreetubeAndroid recommendations 🙂

Unfortunately for FreetubeAndroid, the proxy feature hasn't been implemented (yet) 😕

Found a fork that implements this: https://github.com/grisha765/Tubular-Proxy

Maybe I can merge it. But firstly I had to review code (I don't have any reason to trust the project owner)

Good find!

Briefly tried it and unfortunately you can only enter IP addresses for a SOCKS proxy (doesn't seem to support SOCKS5), which for my usage isn't useful as I need to enter the SOCKS5 Proxy Address of a Mullvad server for example one of the Switzerland servers: ch-zrh-wg-socks5-004.relays.mullvad.net
