When Switching from Papercolor to another Theme some highlights are lost

I installed Papercolor on Neovim. The issue is that if I set colorscheme Papercolor, if I change to another colorscheme, some of the highlights just don't work. Specifically I noticed that the headlines of a markdown (.md) filetype are no longer highliighted (in the other colorschemes). Switching back to Papercolor seems to have no issues. So I think the theme changes some settings that are not restored by other themes.
