Insist on individual profiles at sign up (like FB basically, no couples or groups) and then allow both hosts and travellers to link (and un-link) profiles (with the consent of each party) when they are cohabiting a house or travelling together.
It would be useful for individuals to be able to keep their friends/references etc despite changing circumstances and could also make requests from groups easier as all profiles could be automatically included in the message.

While I don't see a way to enforce this with technology, having it be a community norm makes sense and it would be reflected in ratings if a couple or group shared a single identity.
