Decide on doc content for Getting Started with API #750

What is the workflow for API (only) users reading docs? Should they see a completely different getting started guide? Are there other on-boarding steps relevant to only them?

Once decision is made, this could involve:
a) Updating existing GUI getting started guide to be more friendly to API users, leading them into the API article (with minor changes)
b) Changing existing API getting started guide to be standalone from GUI one, such that API users don't need to read GUI article
