Whoosh-reloaded and Haystack?

Hey, it's good to see Whoosh reloaded. I'm new to python based search, and I have a very basic question.

It appears that with the original Whoosh, a common approach was to use Haystack as a library on top of Whoosh (or Solr, etc.) Is that still possible with Whoosh-reloaded? And perhaps equally important, is that still a good idea?

My use-case is a fairly simple blog-like application, with only modest scaling needs. Is Haystack overkill?
