Steps to reproduce

  1. I had very old sessions on both Ubuntu and Android apps. None was verified, but I Was logged-in in both, and I could see my spacs, rooms etc..
  2. On Ubuntu app I go to settings, security, Reset secure backup. A new key is created, a classic backup key made up of 12 4-chars strings. I store it.
  3. Now the Ubuntu app is still not verified, the Secure Backup says This session is backing up your keys. and Cross-signing says Cross-signing is not set up

Now, if I try to verify the session, I'm asked for the key.

If I upload the key from the file, no error is reported, but "Continue" button is disabled
If I paste the key, a red error appears "Wrong Security Key".

So now I am stuck. The support over Twitter told me to upload logs so here I am.

Outcome

What did you expect?

Not sure to be honest.
I expect the Ubuntu app to be automatically verified after the Reset, and then to verify android and web apps using the new Key from ubuntu app

What happened instead?

Already described.

Operating system

Ubuntu 24.04

Application version

Element version: 1.11.89 Crypto version: Rust SDK 0.7.2 (2f872cf), Vodozemac 0.8.1

How did you install the app?

echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/element-io-archive-keyring.gpg] https://packages.element.io/debian/ default main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/element-io.list

Homeserver

Will you send logs?
