bought the AWUS1900 coz i had a good exp with another Alfa wifi usb adapter.
then when i got to this github repo was dismayed to learn it wasnt natively supported by Linux in kernel drivers. blamed myself partially for buying it for the killer looks hehe what with its cool 4 antennas 😄. then got more sad when it was mentioned that its AP duty performance was sub par. experienced it 1st hand using the linux wifi hotspot utility from https://github.com/lakinduakash/linux-wifi-hotspot.
then i remembered back in the pandemic days using my previous Alfa wifi usb as wifi bridge and how successful and reliable it was. went back to this page https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-wifi-bridge/ to set it up. success! so far no disconnects and lagging. in short its solid as a rock doing its job as a wifi bridge. 😌 😄 😄 😄
just sharing this here that this model may not work reliably as an AP but it sure works solid as a Wifi bridge.
my setup is AWUS1900 wifi bridge connected to PI 4 with onboard wifi disabled. which is then connected to a switch. switch then offers ethernet connectivity to other devices such as its PI 4 brother.
P.S.
make sure to set the metric in /etc/dhcpcd.conf as mentioned by Spencer Arnold in the comments to be able to share your internet connection successfully
