Not sure if this is a modeling or table-related issue...
I've been using untextured glowpoints to "emit light from glowmaps" via the Glowpoint overrides shp.tbl entry.

It seems to work pretty well (even if it can get a bit heavy on performance), but the emitted light seems to get dimmed at a specific viewing distance.
This seems to happen mostly (if not exclusively) when the light covers a large area of the model.
