Using a supported version?

  • I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

The convenient relative date formats like "Monday" or "Yesterday" are replaced by full dates due to the new year changeover. Today, 1/1/2025, shows this in the sidebar:

image

Steps to reproduce

  1. Send a message on 12/31.
  2. Wait until 1/1.
  3. See that it says "Dec. 31 YYYY" instead of "Yesterday".

Expected result

Relative/nearby date formatting takes precedence over full dates.

Actual result

Full dates take precedence over relative/nearby date formatting.

I actually already have a spreadsheet tracking the timestamp formatting differences across the different Signal client apps. Since I'm tracking this elsewhere I'm going to close this issue now. But thank you for the report
