How to include symlinked storage in a backup?

Hey,
I'm using Deployer for my deployments and so my storage directory is symlinked to a path outside the root project.
I've set follow_links to true and the storage directory does get included in the backup, but the problem is since I have storage:link enabled, the public/storage directory also points to the storage symlinked, so the content of the storage is included twice in the backup.

Is there a way around this?
I've tried setting base_path('public/storage') to my backup.php's exclude array but that will just prevent storage be included at all. So it makes the situation even worse.

Ok it seems I should have done this the other way around.
I should have left follow_links set to false, and instead add base_path('storage') to the include array.
