I have just been caught out looking at a long page (which is a mega list of links to other pages). It was looking for information about e-mails. Because I knew I might have entries down as mail / e-mail / email, I did an on page search for mail. There were a lot, but I didn't find what I was looking for. Later someone pointed out the section I should have been looking at. All the references to e-mail used email, so I had missed them (and cost me a lot of time and made me look a bit stupid [which is probably the worst bit]).
I would love the ability to do an actual on page search, like my grep tool in my idea, that gives me a list of entries as a clickable list with a bit of contextual text before and after. Ideally in a way I can click on the links without the search results disappearing.
This would not be using ON's search, but OM's and would eventually allow more enhancements.
It would be the start of a search window.
Must: Search on current page
Must: List of hits
Should: normal grep type search options: case sensitive / whole words / down / up / all
Nice: Search in: current page / list of pages (e.g. your favourites, selected links on current page)
I know you have resisted this and I can see why (effort vs re-inventing ON's search), but once there is a home for the simple search, I am sure more use cases will become apparent. My desire to have a list of pages I want to regularly search as if they were one page would be a massive productivity boost.
At some point I'll have a hunt for similar requests in here (open and closed) and see your feedback to those requests.
Regards & thanks so much for all your hard work.
