Spacemacs python lsp partially working in other folders than home folder

I am currently trying to configure python lsp for spacemacs. I got it working by adding (python:variable python-backend 'lsp) to my .spacemacs file.

However, I can only fully use lsp in the root directory (i.e. home/User) (I am on ubuntu). When I create python files in this folder, I can get autocompletion and error reporting before interpreting the code.

But, in other folders, I only get those little red/orange dots (like in the picture).

Can someone help me?

PS: I may have gotten some error logs, but I don't know how to get them.
