After a successful installation of this agent, it needs to be configured.

To do that, browse to your Plex Media Server, and click on the Tools icon at the top right

  • Make sure, that it's the "Plex Media Server" that is selected as a leaf on top left
  • Then select "Agents"
  • Then make sure, that the SRT2UTF-8 agent is selected, and is at the buttom as the last agent in the list, for all primary agents for both Movies and TV-Shows

Options:

You can click on the little gear on the SRT2UTF-8 line to acces them

Fix Subtitle Encoding

When checked, the encoding of sidecar subtitles will no longer be converted to UTF-8. It is not recommended to disable this. However, a user may want to disable this if they only want a language code to be added to subtitle file names (if not present).

Create Backup

When checked, a backup of the subtitle file will be created before changing it. It's strongly recommended not to disable this (Note...if detection goes bad, then your only option is to manually override your subtitle files with the back-up)

Support OpenSubtitles

If this is enabled, then the agent will also check subtitles downloaded with the OpenSubtitles plugin, and correct them if needed

Valid Subtitle extentions, seperated with a space

Here you enter the valid extensions that this agent considers valid subtitle files

Preferred language

If a subtitle file does not contains a language code, like "myMovie.da.srt", then the agent will assume that the subtitle file is in the selected language

Add language code to subtitle files if not present

When checked, any sidecar subtitles that do not have a language code in the file name will be renamed. It is very important that you select your preferred language before enabling this setting.

Remove the original subtitle file after adding the language code

Only takes effect if the "Add language code" option is also enabled. If disabled, the agent will copy the subtitle file instead of moving (renaming) it, leaving the original file in place.
