Annual Maintenance

This list is a template. At the beginning of each year, we copy it. Make changes here to affect the checklist in future years.

Spring / Early Summer

  • Firewood - split and stack outdoors, so the summer sun seasons it
  • Carpenter ant control around the lodge

Summer / Fall

  • Fire exit signs - replace batteries. Change north batteries on even years, south on odd years.
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors - change batteries and test
  • Fire extinguishers - bring to town for annual inspection
  • Kitchen stove: annual maintenance
  • Wood stove: sweep the chimney
  • Generators - test both - run under load
  • Water Bars - repair and trench out all existing water bars
    • on the 420 road
    • on lodge property
  • Snowmobiles - At each work party, idle the engines for a few minutes to charge the batteries.
  • Mow grass around lodge and on the hill
  • Chip limbs from winter debris and firewood and spread chips on the XC trails
  • inspect and refill mouse traps
  • refill mouse poison dispensers
  • Fuel
    • purchase diesel fuel
    • purchase gasoline
    • purchase propane
  • Snow Machines
    • oil and grease
    • service

Late Fall

  • Rope Tows (all 3)
    • pulleys - grease all 3 of Jim's tows
    • Add 'Benite' to wheels to improve snow & ice shedding. Needs coordination to take the ropes off their respective pulleys/wheels.
  • Torque thru bolts on idler and bull wheels
  • Inspect all wooden wheels for cracks and other defects
  • Mach
    • torque universal bolts on drive shaft
  • Firewood - move seasoned wood into the wood shed
  • Generator gas cans: fill and place in generator hut for ready use during winter.
  • Water System
    • Dam - clean out
    • Change water filters, ask Phil

Prior to Mushroom weekend

  • Clean and empty the Zoo
  • Set up plywood tables atop sawhorses, as many as we can find
  • Clean the Lodge

Last work party

  • Hang all three ropes high, tied off with hooks to prevent blowing out of hooks
  • Hang Mach’s third extra rope hook at ¾ point in the trees
  • Hang Mach rope at top of hill at the safety gate
  • Tie up all three safety gate chains to tow rope to prevent them from becoming buried under several feet of snow
  • Clean and make ready for winter:
    • Cat House
    • Zoo
    • Basement
    • Propane hut
    • Tow Hut
  • Drain and run empty gas pole saws
