Note Fields Index and Display

MARC records may contain several notes from a wide variety of optional note fields. For example, books in special collections are more likely to be "Bound With" than books elsewhere (see Bound With details). Archival materials are most likely to have "Biographical Note." Penn State's (and others') dissertations should have the "Dissertation Note," etc.

These notes are primarily intended for display purposes, to convey more information about the item or record to the end user.

Common/important notes are: 505 (Table of Contents) and 520 (Abstract). We will want to prioritize these notes and index the 505 in keyword search.

Note Fields Display

Most of these notes will be displayed near the bottom of the record. While there are a lot of possible notes, few records will have more than 3-5 notes. Most will have fewer.
